I mix mesquite with hickory chips. Nice flavor kick. It says it's only for gas or electric smokers but with a little experimenting, you can add a light mix to charcoal. I add a very small mix around the sides of my smoker so there's no big flame up from the chips. Would recommend.

These chips work great in my CharBroil electric smoker.  I  found the mesquite to be a  bit strong for chicken but great on a pork butt and a brisket.
