Ninja ruffled some feathers among grill manufacturers with the launch of their first outdoor grill last year when they launched the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill, and now they’re back for round two…

They just released the brand-new Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven that includes a lot of the great roasting & smoking features of the original Woodfire but with the added ability to transform into a top-notch pizza oven as well.

When I heard about the upcoming launch, I knew I had to get my hands on one to try it out and let you know if it’s worth the buy. In this review, I will be breaking down the specifications, performance, and design of the new Ninja Outdoor Oven.

Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven unboxing and first impressions

The Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven has essentially zero assembly required. With the exception of having to remove tags and stickers, the oven comes fully assembled. The pizza stone, pro-heat pan, roast rack, and accessory frame all come inside the oven.

My first impression was “Wow, this thing is sleek”. It has a clean, copper-colored exterior with beautiful stainless-steel accents. Like most Ninja products, the thing is definitely a statement piece.

What I like:

  • Beautiful design with sleek features
  • Intuitive cooking options
  • Super versatile, ability to cook in many ways
  • Bells and dings to notify you when the oven is preheated, done cooking, etc.

What I don’t like:

  • Preheating the oven took some time (25 minutes to reach 550°F)
  • I wish there was a bit more surface area for larger pizzas

Specifications and features

The Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven is so much more than just a pizza oven. It has the ability to roast, smoke meat/BBQ, and also cook pizzas in minutes. I love the fact that it can handle high-heat applications (up to 700°F) and is also able to smoke meat low and slow.

Keep in mind, that similar to the original Ninja Woodfire Grill, this is a fully electric unit. You can add pellets to the smoke box to add woodfire flavor to any cooking setting (pizza, roasting, dehydrating, smoking, etc.) but the pellets are not a fuel source. The fuel source is electric and the pellets are simply there to add smoke and woodfire flavor.

You can also use the Woodfire Flavor button to add woodfire flavor at any temperature. If you’re cooking between 140°F-350°F you will get a bold, smoky flavor. If you cook at high temperatures (350°F-700°F) you will get more of a subtle woodfire flavor because the cooking time isn’t as long.

Cooking pizza on the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven

One of the things I liked the most about cooking on the Ninja was the fact that it was pretty easy to use and extremely intuitive. When I went to cook my first pizza, I noticed that you could turn the knob to the pizza setting and it gave you an option of what type of pizza you wanted to cook:

  • Neopolitan: A chewy, puffy crust that’s spotted with crispy bubbles.
  • Thin Crust: Thin, stretched pizza with a crispy crust.
  • New York: Large, hand-tossed pizza with light browning and a foldable, chewy crust.
  • Pan Pizza: Baked in a deep dish or pan with a thick, chewy crust. Think Sicilian or Chicago Deep Dish.
  • Frozen: Turn your favorite packaged pie into a gooey masterpiece in minutes.
cooked pepperoni pizza next to a Ninja Woodfire Oven

I started with a simple, thin-crust pepperoni pizza to test the oven out. It was done in 3 minutes at 550°F and the pizza was cooked to perfection. I was impressed with how quickly and evenly the oven was able to cook my pizza.

Final thoughts

I am extremely impressed with the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven so far. Ninja packed so much versatility into a small design. While I’ve only tried out pizza so far, I can’t wait to put it to the test with smoking, roasting, and dehydrating.

I will be sure to keep this article updated as we continue to test the Ninja, but so far I’d say it’s a good buy!
